Exceed

ASCC users can run Exceed on a Windows machine to use a fully-functional X Window System display server, which allows you to access UNIX-based applications. Windows is still running "underneath" and can be used simultaneously.

Getting Started

Exceed is really a whole suite of applications, but what you probably want to do at first is just run Exceed (XDMCP-Broadcast) . If you're on a workstation with Windows NT there is probably already an icon on the desktop, or you can go to Start->Programs->Exceed->Exceed (XDMCP-Broadcast).

Next you choose the server you wish to use. You must have an appropriate log-on ID.

Now you enter your user name and then the password. Exceed will take over the Windows desktop with its own workspace.

Front Panel ImageThe front panel(shown smaller than actual size) should be visible. It allows you to launch applications, switch between multiple workspaces, etc.

Note that the Windows taskbar is still visible and fully-functional as well.

To log off: Click EXIT on the front panel.
